THE SPURS SHIRT
The penultimate home shirt of Puma's six-season reign as
Tottenham Hotspur's technical kit partner saw a number of
significant changes to the team strip. One of the more unusual
features for the 2010/11 season was that the jerseys worn in
the Premier League carried a different sponsor (Autonomy)
to those worn in the cup competitions (Investec).
The shirts used in European competition not only had the different
sponsor, but they also carried other noticeable differences to those
worn in the Premier League. On the right sleeve the Champions League
'starball' logo appeared for the first time, and UEFA's 'RESPECT'
campaign badge appeared on the left sleeve, both produced in
flock 'SensCilia' material.
Befitting Tottenham's European traditions, the Champions
League version of the kit was completed with white shorts and
socks, albeit with the right leg of the shorts carrying a diagonal

The club's first appearance in the modern incarnation of
Europe's premier cup competition coincided with a new
commercial era for Spurs, with different sponsor logos
appearing on the shirts for different competitions.
For the Champions League, as well as domestic cup
competitions, shirts featuring the logo of financial
investment company Investec were worn. The logo that
appears on Gareth Bale's shirt is the final incarnation of
three slightly different versions seen in Europe during
the 2010/11 season.
On the back of the shirts, new Spurs-specific letter and
number fonts were used on all the cup kits - in both the
Champions League and domestic cups - although the small
club crest in the base of the numbers only appeared on the
shirts worn in Europe.
blue flash that mirrored the adventurous design found on the
shoulders of the shirt.
Qualifying for the Champions League had become something
of a holy grail for Spurs, who had not taken part in UEFA's premier
club tournament since 1962 despite several near misses, so this
shirt is fondly remembered for the thrilling run to the quarter
finals. The shirt featured here was worn by Gareth Bale on one of
the most memorable nights in our Champions League history in
November 2010.
In an exhilarating European 2010/11 campaign, Bale's marauding
brilliance announced his talent to the world with two extraordinary
performances against Internazionale in the group stages. In the
first match, away in the San Siro, our Welsh wizard scored a brilliant
second-half hat-trick. But it was in the reverse fixture - when Bale
pulled on the shirt pictured here - that he tore the Inter defence
to shreds in a famous 3-1 victory, giving Brazilian international
full-back Maicon a torrid time and sparking the White Hart Lane
faithful into the chant'Taxi for Maicon'.
Following the Inter triumph, Spurs (who had narrowly avoided
elimination in the qualifying stages having been 3-0 down in the
away leg of their match-up against Swiss team Young Boys) reached
the knockout stages where they faced Milan. Inter's arch-rivals
were dispatched after a superb 1-0 away win in the San Siro and a
goalless draw at home, before we were eliminated in the quarter
finals by Real Madrid.
