Danny Rose says the team's late
wins will prove to be crucial when
the season comes to an end.
One week ago at this very
stadium, Christian Eriksen popped
up with a 25-yard last-gasp winner
to finally breach Brighton's defence,
securing an important 1-0 Premier
League victory in the race to finish
in the top four.
It's not the first time our Danish
star has come up with the goods in
the closing moments of games - he
memorably struck in stoppage time
to secure a 1-0 win over a similarly
stubborn Burnley side at Wembley
back in December, while also firing
in late to snatch victory by the same
scoretine over Inter to really give
our Champions League campaign a
shot in the arm in the group stage
in November.
As left-back Danny points out,
goals of that nature have been
critical - but it's not solely Christian
who has been responsible for them.
"We know in these sorts of
games we're going to have a lot
of the ball and this is when you
depend on your creative players
like Christian, Sonny and Lucas,"
he said. "Thankfully, Christian
has got a habit of scoring late goals
this season and these are going
to prove vital come the end of
the season.
"It's the tightest top four
race that I can ever remember -
Christian, Sonny and other players
have scored some late goals for us.
They've all had to chip in with Harry
Kane being injured.
"For Sonny, I think it's the third
season in a row he's got near the
20-goal mark for us and Christian
with his assists... he's always up
there among the best in Europe,
not just the league. Lucas has had
a very good season as well so it's
nice that everyone has chipped in
with the goals. We're on the home
straight now and we hope we can
make this a memorable season."
We are delighted to announce that from
next season Spurs Ladies will be renamed
Tottenham Hotspur Women.
Originally known as Broxbourne Ladies,
the Club was formed in1985 before becoming
Spurs Ladies in 1991. Glenn Weaver, who was
the first team coach for three years and then
Chairman from 1994 until his sad passing in
2015, was instrumental in growing the Club.
Glenn worked tirelessly alongside his sister
Valerie Weaver and June Clarke who continue
to be involved in the Club.
To further support the progress of the
women's team, we have appointed Heather
Cowan as Head of Women's Football to oversee
all day-to-day operations having previously
undertaken a similar role with her former
employers Birmingham City Women.
Speaking about her appointment, Heather
said:"l am thrilled to havejoined Spurs at a time
where women's football is really starting to
flourish. The Club has a wonderful opportunity
to create an exciting future and a lasting legacy
in the women's game and I'm looking forward
to playing a part in that.
"We shall be working hard to develop a
structure and culture that enables talented
female footballers to thrive. We're striving
for continued success and to build something
that fans, players and staff are all proud to
be a part of
Each year, the FA Community Shield raises
hundreds of thousands of pounds for
community-based initiatives and charities up
and down the country.
This year, we have chosen to donate our
share of the fund to St Mungo's - one of the
UK's leading homelessness charities which
works to prevent homelessness and provides
a bed to more than 2,800 people a night who
are either homeless or at risk.
The charity supports people with a range of
needs through more than 300 projects including
emergency accommodation, hostels and
supportive housing projects, advice services
and specialist physical health, mental health,
skills and work services.
Club Ambassador Ledley King presented the
cheque to Reta Robinson, St Mungo's Director
of Fundraising Iver Morgan, St Mungo's Head
of Volunteering and Emma Hobbins, Deputy
Manager of St Mungo's Haringey Pathway
Service.
St Mungo's has several accommodation
projects supporting the community in and
around Tottenham and Haringey and the £2,000
donation will go towards helping some of the
most vulnerable people in the Club's local
community.
Reta Robinson said: "Tottenham Hotspur is
the local club for several St Mungo's services,
and we are truly grateful for their support.
Our projects don't just help people to find a
safe place to stay; they focus on long term
recovery and rebuilding lives. We're working
to make a difference for people experiencing
homelessness in this community, and this
donation will help us do that"
