GOOD evening and welcome to Celtic
Park for tonight's UEFA Champions
League match against Ajax.
I would also like to welcome the players,
management and supporters who have
travelled over from Amsterdam for the game,
This is part one of a double-header against
Ajax, and we'll look forward to travelling to
the Netherlands to play at the Amsterdam
ArenA on November 6. We hope to go there
full of confidence after a good result tonight,
It goes without saying that Ajax will look
at these two games in exactly the same way
and will be aiming to get a positive result
here in Glasgow.
Having already played two group games,
against AC Milan and Barcelona, and having
played very well in both matches, we're
disappointed that we have nothing to show
from our efforts in terms of points. That's
something we're hoping to rectify tonight.
I don't think anyone who saw our game in
the San Siro could disagree that we deserved
to take something out of that game, while I
felt our performance against Barcelona here
at Celtic Park also deserved some reward,
Those games are in the past now, and we
have to focus on the challenge ahead, which
will be a tough one in the shape of Ajax,
They are a famous club in European
football, with a great history in this
competition, as well as a reputation for
playing attacking and entertaining football,
That is also a reputation which Celtic enjoy,
so tonight has the makings of a great game.
Ajax lost their opening UEFA Champions
League game to Barcelona, but they will
consider themselves unlucky not to have
taken all three points from their last game,
at home to AC Milan, conceding a last-minute
penalty which allowed Milan to equalise. We
know, therefore, that we face a difficult test
tonight, but it's also one that everyone here
is relishing,
The atmosphere here at Celtic Park will
once again be unrivalled throughout Europe,
and we hope that will help propel us towards
victory.
We enjoy competing in this competition,
and our performances have shown that it's a
stage we deserve to be on, However, we will
need another strong performance tonight
in order to get some points on the board and
that is our intention, Thanks, as always, for
