BOBBY PETTA
1999-2004
81 appearances; 3 goals
A player who definitely benefited from the
arrival of Martin O'Neill to Celtic Park, Petta
had been signed by John Barnes in July 1999,
but it was only when the Irishman took over
as manager that he really thrived. He was
part of the team which demolished Rangers
6-2 in the first derby of the 2000/01 season,
and he helped the Hoops lift the treble that
season, He also scored one of only three
goals for the Hoops the following season
in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers,
helping Celtic to a 3-1 away win against Ajax
in Amsterdam.
EVANOERSNO
2006-08
49 appearances; 1 goal
The young midfielder joined Celtic from
Feyenoord in 2006 but unlike another player
who had joined the Hoops from the same
club, Henrik Larsson, Evander Sno wasn't
able to make the same impact at Celtic, He
made a total of 49 appearances during his
two seasons at Celtic, with Gordon Strachan's
side winning the title in both years to make
it three-in-a-row, before Sno returned to
Holland, signing for Ajax, In 2010 he suffered
a cardiac arrest while playing for Ajax
reserves. Thankfully, he was resuscitated
and he was subsequently fitted with a
defibrillator. Two years later, that proved
life-saving as he suffered another cardiac
arrest, He is currently without a club,
JAN VENNEGOOR OF HESSELINK
2006-09
108 appearances; 44 goals
Wim Jansen's Celtic connection goes back to
1970 when he was part of the Feyenoord
side which defeated the Hoops in the
European Cup final, However, he is most
fondly remembered for his contribution in
the 1997/98 season, when he delivered
two pieces of silverware to the club, The
first was the League Cup, with a 3-0 victory
over Dundee United in the final, but more
importantly, his Celtic team won the league
title - Celtic's first in a decade - and thus
stopping Rangers' bid for 10-in-a-row.
While he was only at the club for that one
season, Celtic fans remain grateful for Wim's
achievement. Oh, and for good measure, he
also signed Henrik Larsson for the Hoops in
the summer of 1997!
EDSON BRAAFHEID
2010
12 appearances
Celtic signed the left-back from Bayern
Munich, but he failed to make much of an
impression during the four months he was
at the club, Remarkably, at least in the eyes
of the Celtic support who had seen him
in action in the preceding months, Edson
Braafheid not only made Holland's World Cup
squad, but actually made an appearance for
them in the final, coming on as an extra-time
substitute, He currently plays for German
side, 1899 Hoffenheim, although he spent
last season on loan at FC Twente.
VIRGIL VAN DIJK
2013 - Present
The 22-year-old defender has arrived at
Celtic this summer from FC Groningen, where
he had impressed for the past two seasons.
Since making his competitive debut in the
league win over Aberdeen at Celtic, van Dijk
has shown his class and already established
himself in the first-team, forming an
impressive central defensive partnership
with Efe Ambrose.
DERK BOERRIGTER
2013 - Present
The former Ajax winger joined Celtic at
the end of July, and while the 26-year-old
has been hampered by a series of niggling
injuries, he could be a vital player tonight as
he faces his old club in the UEFA Champions
League.
THE MAN WHO STOPPED THE 10
The man with the longest surname in
Celtic's history, the fans still managed to
get a song for Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink
and he was a popular figure during his time
with the Hoops. He scored 44 goals in 108
appearances for the club, which began when
he came on as a substitute against Hibernian
in August 2006 and scored the winner,
Among his important goals was a diving
header in a 2008 derby win over Rangers
to seal a last-gasp win and help the Hoops
towards the title that season, That was
secured on the final day, when Vennegoor of
Hesselink headed home the only goal of the
game on an emotional night at Tannadice
to beat Dundee United 1-0 and make it
three-in-a-row for Celtic.
GLENNLOOVENS
2008-12
90 appearances; 9 goals
The defender joined Celtic from Cardiff City
in 2008, and while he made 90 appearances
over a four-year spell with the club, his time
was punctuated with a series of injuries
which curtailed his participation, The
highlight of his time at the club would have
been his performance in the League Cup
final victory over Rangers in 2009, He moved
to Real Zaragoza in Spain in the summer of
2012.
JOS HOOIVELD
2010-11
10 appearances
The Dutch defender joined Celtic from
Swedish side AIK in January 2010, but
injuries and the form of his defensive rivals
ensured he only made 10 appearances for
the club before he left in the summer of
2011, having spent the previous six months
on loan at FC Copenhagen. He signed for
Southampton, where he is now part of a
Celtic contingent, alongside Artur Boruc,
Danny Fox and the Saints' summer signing,
Victor Wanyama,
