Voetbalvrienden,
Van harte welkom bij het Amsterdam Tournament van 2009. Het toernooi
speelt al jarenlang een grote rol in de voorbereiding van de grootste clubs van
Europa op het komende voetbalseizoen. Wij danken Footballs World Series
voor de organisatie en de nauwe samenwerking die we met ze hebben. Ook de
gemeente Amsterdam en de Amsterdam Arena danken wij voor hun inzet en
betrokkenheid bij het toernooi.
Het Amsterdam Tournament kent een rijke historie en daar sluit deze editie
goed op aan. Uiteenlopende grote en succesvolle Europese clubs namen deel
aan het toernooi met als doel twee serieuze krachtmetingen voor het naderende
seizoen. Het toernooi kende winnaars als Arsenal, Barcelona, Manchester
United, Lazio Roma en AFC Ajax.
Dit jaar gaan Atletico Madrid, SL Benfica, Sunderland FC en AFC Ajax de strijd
met elkaar aan op het gras van ons stadion. Atletico Madrid stelde deelname
aan de Champions League zeker, SL Benfica en Ajax deden dat voor de Europa
League. Sunderland FC is overgenomen en heeft ambitieuze plannen. Zij
willen weer van zich laten horen in de Premier League. Er staat ons een aantal
interessante duels te wachten.
De diverse competities in Europa gaan hierna weer van start. Wij wensen
iedereen veel voetbalplezier en hopen velen van jullie weer terug te zien bij Ajax.

Football friends,
Welcome to the Amsterdam Tournament of 2009. For years, the tournament has
played a big part in the preparation of Europe's biggest clubs for the upcoming
football season. We thank Footballs World Series for the organization and the
close collaboration we have with them. We would also like to thank the City of
Amsterdam and the Amsterdam ArenA for their efforts and for their involvement
in the tournament.
The Amsterdam Tournament has a rich history and this year's edition fits right
into that. Various big and successful European clubs have taken part in the
tournament, with the aim to have two serious tests for the approaching season.
The tournament has had winners such as Arsenal, Barcelona, Manchester
United, Lazio, Roma and AFC Ajax.
This year Atletico Madrid, SL Benfica, Sunderland FC and AFC Ajax will battle for
the title on the pitch of our own stadium. Atletico Madrid have secured a place in
the Champions League, SL Benfica and Ajax have done so in the Europa League.
Sunderland FC are under new ownership and have ambitious plans. They want to
be aiming high in the Premier League. We are in for some interesting matches.
The various European leagues will start after this. We wish everyone much
football fun and hope to see many of you again at Ajax.
