Ik wil graag de bezoekende spelers en fans van het elfde
Amsterdam Tournament welkom heten. Ik ben zeer trots dat dit
evenement in Amsterdam wordt gehouden.
Dit jaar wordt eens te meer bewezen dat het Amsterdam
Tournament een belangrijk internationaal sportevenement is:
50.000 fans zullen de prestaties van Atlético Madrid, Sunderland,
Benfica en gastheer Ajax bekijken. Dit toernooi past perfect in de
filosofie van de stad Amsterdam. Onze visie is dat de top de basis
inspireert en dat deze basis de top voedt.
Sport is een belangrijk onderdeel voor de stad Amsterdam. Onze
ambitie is de Olympische Spelen in 2028 naar Nederland te halen,
precies honderd jaar nadat de Spelen voor het eerst in onze stad
plaatsvonden. Op de weg naar de Spelen van 2028 worden er een
hoop belangrijke sportevenementen georganiseerd in Amsterdam.
Zo wil de stad bijvoorbeeld heel graag gastheer zijn tijdens het WK
van 2018.
Ik ben trots dat het Amsterdam Tournament, met deze sterke
ploegen, wordt georganiseerd in Amsterdam. Ik hoop dat de
spelers zich sportief zullen gedragen, ik wens iedereen een
inspirerend toernooi en ik hoop dat jullie een plezierig verblijf
hebben in Amsterdam.

I would like to welcome the players and the fans visiting the 11th
Amsterdam Tournament in the Amsterdam ArenA. I'm very proud to
host this event in Amsterdam.
This year the Amsterdam Tournament once more proves to be
a major international sports event: 50.000 fans will witness the
exciting performance of Atlético Madrid, Sunderland, Benfica and
of the host club AFC Ajax. This tournament fits in perfectly with
the philosophy of the city of Amsterdam. Our vision is that the top
inspires the base and that this base feeds the top.
Sport is an important asset for the city of Amsterdam. Our ambition
is to organise the Olympic Games in the Netherlands in 2028,
exactly one hundred years after the Games took place in our city.
Along the way to the Games of 2028 lots of major sports events will
be organised in Amsterdam. For example, the city is ambitious to
host the World Championship Football 2018.
I'm proud that the Amsterdam Tournament, with these strong
competitors, is staged in Amsterdam. I hope the games will be
sporting, I wish everyone an inspiring tournament, and I hope you
will have a pleasant stay in Amsterdam.
