DAVID MEYLER

The New Boys
Republic of Ireland international
goalkeeper Nick Colgan was born when
the Team of '73 we celebrate at today's
game were FA Cup holders. Capped
nine times, Nick has been brought in
to provide cover and competition in
the goalkeeping position and couldn't

Colgan made his debut last Sunday
for a young Sunderland XI that went
down 2-1 to Hamilton at Hartlepool
and will list Sunderland as his 14th
club although like many members
of the goalkeepers' union many of
those clubs have been through loan
moves. Nick began with his home
club Drogheda before being on the
books of Chelsea, Bournemouth, Hibs,
Barnsley and Ipswich with loan spells
at Crewe, Grimsby, Millwall, Brentford,
Reading, Stockport and Dundee Utd.

not to fail. My ambition is to break into
the first team as soon as I can. I want
to do it here and hopefully I can.
France international full back Pascal
Chimbonda is one of the newcomers
from Tottenham. He played 32 Premier
League games for Spurs last season,
mostly in the right back position
although like Justin Hoyte and Danny
Simpson he is equally comfortable in
either full back berth and can operate
successfully in central defence. "Pascal
is one of those rare players who can
