The Diamond family of Hebburn
are at their last game today
before moving to live in Tenerife
on August 12th. Michael, his wife
Michela and their two young
children Brandon (who is 7)
and Alfie (who is nearly two)
have a new life to look forward
to and we wish them well.
Michael has travelled to away
games with the Hebburn branch
and has been a season ticket
holder in the North Stand. The
Diamonds are moving to Tenerife
to run a bar which is going to
be called Samson's Bar. Its in
Costa Adeje on the beach front
of Playa de Fanabe so if you're
there on holiday in future you'll
be sure of a warm welcome.
Look out for a fabulous new sight on
Wearside roads. Michael and Sylvia
Peel of Oxclose in Washington are
season ticket holders along with their
children Gareth, 16, Damian 14 and
Jessica 12. Supporters like to show
their colours but Michael has taken
things a step further by having his
bike customised in red and white.
"The bike's a Harley-Davidson
FLHTC Electraglide" explains
Michael. "It was blue and silver and
when the seat needed replacing I
decided to have it done red and
white and then thought I might
as well have it customised. It's
certainly a head turner now and even
Newcastle fans are impressed!"
SUNDERLAND TOGETHER AGAINST RACISM
Sunday 10th August 2008,11am-4pm
Raich Carter Centre, Commercial
Road, Hendon, Sunderland
A week today sees Sunderland hold
an important racial awareness event at
the Raich Carter Centre in Hendon.
The Sunderland Together Against
Racism (STAR) Festival is an event
hosted by Show Racism the Red Card
in partnership with the Football First
SAFCfoundatlon
team at SAFC Foundation and
many other agencies. The family
festival is being held to celebrate
diversity and combat racism.
The day will be a celebration of
shared cultural experiences through
food, music, dance and sport to
encourage positive awareness of
the issues of racism and prejudice.
It will also bring local communities
together to raise awareness about
the contribution of other cultures
and communities in the area.
The day will be filled with many
activities ranging from a football
tournament between local youth groups
(invite only) to dancing and food tasting.
There will also be a special
football game including ex
professional players from SAFC.
Entry to the event is free
to everyone so why not come
along and join in the fun!
Sunderland AFC expressed its sincere
condolences and sympathies to
the family of Tim Carter following
the tragic death of the club's
Academy goalkeeping coach and
former first team goalkeeper in
June. The Club issued a statement
on behalf of the family asking for
privacy and understanding.
FAMILY STATEMENT:
"The family wishes to express our
sincere thanks to Sunderland Football
Club for respecting our wishes not to
release an earlier statement following
the tragic loss of Tim, and we continue
to ask for privacy and understanding
as we come to terms with our grief.
"The family wishes to thank
all supporters for their messages
of sympathy and condolences
at this very difficult time."
Tim leaves behind wife Gina
and their two young children
aged four and eight years.
Sunderland Chairman Niall
Quinn said: "Everyone at this
Club is devastated since we
learned of the passing of Tim.
"All our thoughts are with
his wife Gina and their young
children, family and friends at this
very sad and difficult time.
"I had known Tim since oiur youth
team days together in London and
formed a stronger bond with him in
my playing days at Sunderland and
more recently in my present role.
"He was Mr. Nice Guy around here
with time for everyone. Please God, we
hope he finds peace in his time now."
Academy Manager Ged McNamee
added: "Tim was just a nice man.and
unassuming in all that he did. He
got on with the job, did it well but
was always modest with it just like
when he was Goalkeeping Coach
for the Estonian national team.
"He also did a lot of work for charity
that many people would not be aware
of. He will sadly missed by everyone
at The Academy and our thoughts
are with his family at this sad time."
BOOK OF CONDOLENCE
The Club created an online book
of condolence for supporters
and friends to express their
sympathies to the family or to share
memories and recollections.
