When Peter Van Vossen arrived at Ibrox in a swap
deal for Oleg Salenko in January 1996 it looked like a
terrific deal as Rangers were getting a quality striker
or winger who had helped an all-conquering Ajax
side win the European Cup in 1995 during a two year
spell in Amsterdam and also featured for Holland.
After a slow start with the Light Blues he started to make
an impact at the start of the 1996/97 season, scoring a
memorable goal in Richard Gough's testimonial match
against Arsenal but the famous 'miss of the centqry' at
Celtic Park in November 1996 seemed to affect his
diminishing confidence.
The following season was to be a difficult one for the
striker although the arrival of Dick Advocaat did give Van
Vossen a new lease of life.
In total he scored 10 goals in 38 appearances for the
Gers and went back to Holland with a League
Championship medal to show from his time in Scotland.
He signed for Feyenoord, De Graafschap and Vitesse
Arnhem before ending his career having made 31
appearances for his country and scoring nine goals.

After enjoying successful spells at DinamoTbilisi in
Georgia andTrabzonspor in Turkey, Arveladze was to
move to Ajax in August 1997 and he became a
popular player at the Amsterdam giants due to his
ability in front of goal.
Having scored a hugely impressive 55 goals in 96
appearances during his four-year spell in Holland, Rangers-
manager Dick Advocaat swooped to sign the talented
hitman for just under £2million.
Aiveladze continued to find the net with ruthless regularity
at Ibrox and he was to bag 17 goals in just 29 top-team
appearances in his debut season although this could have
been more had it not been for a troublesome knee injury.
He was to return in time to play his part in the Scottish
Cup final win over Celtic and then contributed with 16 goal
during the 2002/03 treble-winning campaign.
The arrival of Dado Prso and Nacho Novo in the summer of
2004 pushed Shota down the pecking order but he continued
to weigh in with several key strikes, including an unforgettable
goal against FC Copenhagen which took the Gers1 through to
the Champions League group stages in August 2003.
His overall tally of 44 goals from 95 games underlines his
contribution during his time in Scotland and the popular
Georgian was to move on in June 2005 to play for AZ Alkmaar
and is currently on the books at Spanish side Levante UD.
