he produced amazing performance
after amazing performance. Most
footballers don't get the chance to
share a pitch with a player like Dennis
and I just feel so lucky I got that
chance. I played in the match at Filbert
Street when Dennis scored what has
to be the greatest hat-trick of all time.
The Leicester players that day will dine
out on the fact they played in that
match, but I was on his side, playing
up front with him - you just feel
privileged. And that goal at Newcastle,
people were questioning if Dennis
meant it... If you've played with Dennis
Bergkamp, you know he meant it, he
just did stuff other players couldn't
dream of doing.
I played some of the best football in
my career when Dennis came, he gets
the best out of you and Thierry Henry
will tell you how amazing he's been for
him as well. Imagine what this team
would do if Dennis was three or four
years younger and they had a few
more seasons together; a partnership
of two of the world's best players up
front for Arsenal at the new stadium.
I think you'll realise the kind of respect
Dennis is held in when you see the
players that will go out of the way to
play in his Testimonial. If I can get on
to partner Dennis one more time, that
would be fantastic.
Dennis has been so good for Arsenal
and vice-versa. I don't think he had a
great time in Italy, but you're not
telling me that if Inter hadn't been a
bit more patient with him he wouldn't
have proved to be one of the stars of
Serie A, of course he would, he's too
good. But Dennis embraced the spirit
of the Club and that soon made him a
favourite with the fans and all of the
players he's played with. He's an
Arsenal man.
The opportunity to play with Dennis
Bergkamp was the highlight of my
career as a footballer - that says it all
really.
