Amsterdam Tournament
We feet that the four teams attending this year's event are of the stature that the people of Amsterdam and, indeed, the
nation state of Holland, deserve. We hope you agree!
Each team provides some of the world's most talen
ted players, and it gives us great pleasure to welcome
back FC Barcelona and especially to welcome their
great coach, Louis van Gaal, who celebrated such tre
mendous success in the past with both AFC Ajax and
his current Spanish club.
We are most proud to be associated with AFC Ajax
and it is so encouraging to see a young, vibrant, talen
ted team led by Ronald Koeman and Ruud Krol who,
we are convinced, will re-establish AFC Ajax in what
we consider to be their rightful place at the pinnacle
of world club football.

From the English Premier League, we welcome the
legendary Manchester United FC, managed by Sir
Alex Ferguson. Sir Alex is, without doubt, the most
successful British Club Manager of all time, whose
innate ability to produce first-class teams is well-
known throughout the world.
From Italy, the warmest of welcomes is extended to
Parma AC, and to their coach Cesare Prandelli. Parma
compete in what must be one of the most competi
tive national leagues, Serie A, and are regarded as the
Italian team of style. They are also the Italian Cup spe
cialists. Parma's recent record proves that they should
never, ever be underestimated.
Finally, to AFC Ajax, the Dutch Triple Champions of the
2001/02 season. Yes, Triple indeed, because they not
only won their League and the Cup, they were also the
strongest side during last year's Amsterdam Tourna
ment, after a thrilling win over Liverpool FC (3-1) on
the second matchday.
The recent World Cup had, amongst the nations
taking part, 30 players from the teams who are
playing in this year's tournament. This is a measure
of the stature of The Amsterdam Tournament and it
is a targe that we, as organisers and promoters of the
event, promise to continue to attract in the coming
years. We are therefore delighted to inform you that
a new three-year agreement has been made with the
Amsterdam ArenA for the tournament to continue
through to 2004.
Finally, to you, the most fantastic of supporters, we
say "thank you" for attending the Amsterdam ArenA.
We wish each and every one of you a pleasant visit.
