When establishing a tournament like the DLJdirect Gotham Cup a lot of things have to be taken into consideration: field, referees, practice facilities, accommodations, transportation, media relations, etc. But one of the most important components is, of course, the trophy that is given to the winner of the tournament, along with the trophy presented to the DLJdirect Gotham Cup's Most Valuable Player. When selecting the trophy, it was quickly decided that it had to be elegant, proud, unique, and fascinating. In the company Crystal Impressions, and their exciting new art form, we feel that we have found the perfect creator of the 1999 DLJdirect Gotham Cup trophies. Crystal Impressions uses state-of-the-art laser technology and creativity to produce sculptures that go unmatched in the entire world. By using direct Computer laser beams that are fired into a block of optic grade crystal, they create images inside the crystal block without touching the outer surface. All the trophies created for the DLJdirect Gotham Cup feature the logo of the tournament with a 3D view encompassing all angles and views, creating a fascinating display of Giants Stadium and the other features that comprise the logo. The process to transform the logo, designed by MetroStars Graphic Designer Chris Bacoulis, into a 3D format from the original 2D drawing proved to be a time consuming and difficult affair. The designers of the trophy and the organizing committee spent approximately 3 weeks trying to mold the image into the vision both parties had for the sculpture. After going back and forth numerous times, everything fell into place and the 1999 DLJdirect Gotham Cup Trophy was ready to be created.
