Finalmenfe arrivato il grande giorno, quello che tutti stavano aspettando: Udinese-Ajax, lo possibilita di entrare nella storia. Oggi 4 Novembre 199/ gli almanaccchi bianchi aspettano I'inchiostro con cui si possa scrivere dello vittoria

perte, mentre nella secondo frozione di gioco si tornoti al modulo abituole e colloudoto con Bertotto e Genoux larghi; gli effetti erono sotto gli occhi di tutti. Questo ottimismo ha contagiato un po' tutti compresi i giocatori: dall'eterno
capitan Calori al danese Helveg che pero ammette di non essere ol cento per cento della forma, onche in conseguenza delle botte rimediate con I'Ajax cbe, sebbene in moniera non evidente, di colpi proibiti ne ha dispensati parecchi;
anche in questo caso si evidenzia I'esperienza degli uomini di Martin Olsen. Condudiamo con I'eroe della portita di andata, quel Luigi Turci che ci ha offerto una grandissima prestozione e che nonostante questo sembroto il meno fiducio-
so, forse memore del bombardamento ricevufo lo prima mezz'ora in Olanda. La sua poca fiducia si pub racchiudere in questo commenfo: "Passare il turno sara durissima, basti pensare che ad un loro goal noi dovremo fame tre, e loro un
goal lo segnano sempreQueste considerazioni comunque fanno capire che sara una partita tufta da vivere e alio stadio Friuli 40.000 persone entusiaste cercheranno, con il loro incitamento, di mantenere un sogno ancora vivo.
Jhe great day of the mated Udinese-Ajax that everybody was waiting for has come in the end! On November 4th 199/we will have the rare opportunity to go down in history. Jhe white sheets of football annals are waiting for the
ink which will write about Udinese's win. The days before the match have quickly gone by, but surely not in the usual way because this is not just a match - for all friulians this is "the match". Under other circumstances everybody
would have talked about Russia-Italy or Juventus-Udinese, but this is not the case. Since Udinese lost the first
match by 1-0 only, there is still scope for hope and growing enthusiasm. During the trainings the atmosphere
has always been optimistic. Jhe coach laccheroni and the team manager Causio are certainly aware of their
difficult task but they know that winning is not impossible. Moreover the coach has admitted that some
mistakes were actually made in the first half of the match in Amsterdam (and this does him credit). For
example, the two side defenders played too much towards the centre leaving the left and right sides of the
field unprotected. In the second half of the match, Bertotto and Oenaux went back to their usual position and
that made the difference everyone noticed. Optimism has affected also the players, from the irreplaceable
captain Calori to the Danish defender Thomas Helveg. Jhe latter has however admitted that be is not in per
fect condition also because of the blows received in the previous match. As a matter of fact, the players trai
ned by Martin Olsen struck many of those prohibited blows, though they went unseen and this shows bow
experienced Ajax is. The hero of that first match is the goalkeeper Luigi Jurci, who gave an excellent perfor
mance. In spite of this, he seemed to be the most disheartened one perhaps because be can still remember
the bombing suffered in the first half of the game in Amsterdam. This is his pessimistic opinion: "Progressing
to the next round is going to be very difficult. If they score a goal as they always do, we will have to score at
least three. "As these comments point out, the match is going to be hard but also very exciting. However, 40
thousand enthusiastic supporters will try with their cheering to keep a dream alive.
