England lead at half-time
Fair Play
Manchester United and Rosenborg
Ballklub to clash in the quarter-finals?
No, we haven't mis-read the UEFA
Champions League fixture list. It is
UEFA's Fair Play ranking which conver
ts the two clubs' performances against
FC Porto and Juventus FC respective
ly into a top-of-the-table clash.
The Fair Play ranking is based on each
country's ratings in all matches played
in UEFA competitions - at club and
national team level, including age-limit
tournaments - and the top three at the
end of each season are rewarded with
an additional place in the following edi
tion of the UEFA Cup. At the moment,
England, Finland and Norway lead the
field but are being hotly pursued by
Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden and
Wales. The complete list, compiled
during the winter break, is divided into
two groups; one comprised of the
countries, which have played 10 or
more matches, and one with the coun
tries, which have played less than 10
matches.
