Fair Play Fair Play n O Daniel Kutermak - Fair Play brings its reward "I couldn't have conceived of beating a modest team in this way. The pitch would have turned into a battlefield, because the referee didn't know which decision to take. My goal didn't count, and that's all there is to it." For his conduct, summarised in this brief quote and demonstrating an exemplary and sportsmanlike attitude towards football, Daniel Kutermak has received an honorary diploma from the International Fair Play Committee. Playing for his club Wittelsheim in a cup game in Alsace (France), Kutermak scored the equaliser against Kingersheim because the side-netting had not been fixed down properly. However, Kutermak brought an end to lengthy discussions on the pitch as to the validity of the goal by confirming to the referee that the ball had ended up in the goal only because there was a gap in the side-netting. Nevertheless, or perhaps even because of the goalscor- er's honesty, Wittelsheim qualified for the next round with a 3-2 victory. Kutermak scored two of the three goals - proof that Fair Play is rewarded in the end. -W The name of the game
