Rangers FC are playing Heart of
Midlothian in a Scottish Premier League
fixture. Early in the second half, Hearts
have two players sent off for violent
play. With Rangers 2-0 up, their hopes
of victory look like Mission Impossible.
But things were to go from bad to
worse. A third Hearts player, and then a
fourth, were also dismissed, leaving the
visitors with seven players on the pitch
against the fullstrength Scottish cham
pions. They put all seven in defensive
positions around their own box and
ended up losing 3-0. You might be
wondering what on earth a match with
four red cards could have to do with a
Fair Play article. The explanation comes
from Rangers' Danish striker, Brian
Laudrup.
"The first two red cards were well,
OK. But the third and the fourth were
for some protests to one of the refe
ree's assistants. All right, I can imagine
that some of the comments made in
the heat of the moment were none too
polite. But when the referee reached for
the red card we could see that if he
