UEFA Champions League
Success Story
AWARD FOR TF1
The second annual UEFA Champions
League Broadcaster of the Season
award was won by French broadcaster
TF1
Entries were received from many of the
broadcaster partners, and the judging
panel, representing UEFA and TEAM
Marketing, were looking in particular for
high quality match coverage, supported
by lively and innovative programme
ideas.
Once again TF1 provided host broad
caster coverage of the very best quali
ty, using many new techniques to pro
vide a real insight into the matches
played at the Stade de la Beaujoire in
Nantes. Using an average of 18 came
ras, including cameras on cranes,
super slow-motion replays and the
latest digital replay technology, TFTs
host broadcasting was second to none.
The judging panel were particular
impressed with the energetic studio
environment of the live match transmis
sions from France, hosted by roger
Zabel, with invited guests from the foot
ball world, as well as the informed com
mentary of the legendary duo Thierry
Roland and Jean-Michel Larque.
RTI of Italy were highly commended for
their coverage of such a dramatic final
in Rome between Juventus FC and
AFC Ajax, and once again RTL of
Germany, last year's Broadcaster of the
Season, demonstrated some real origi
nality in their productions and studio
presentations.
Across the spectrum of UEFA
Champions League broadcasters the
quality of the transmissions was extre
mely impressive, proving that TF1 will
have a hard job to retain their title as
Broadcaster of the Season in a year's
time.
