CHAMPIONS

LEAGUE
On behalf of the city of Rome and its people, I am delighted
to welcome you to the Final of the UEFA Champions League
between AFC Ajax and Juventus FC.
The Olympic Stadium will be hosting a feast of football and
sport, but I am certain that the whole city will take this
opportunity for three of the most beautiful and important
cities in the history of Europe Amsterdam, Turin and Rome
to make one another's acquaintance.
All of us football fans, including those who are not Juventus or
Ajax supporters, know that what is most important in any
European Cup Final is the will to win and the determination to
become the top team in Europe. I am sure that the people of
Rome, and both teams' supporters, will be able to enjoy the
match without losing sight of the real goal, which is to make
new friends and to have a good time together. I sincerely hope
that this desire to meet new people will allow our city to show
off its magnificent monuments and historic squares at one of
the most beautiful times of year for visiting the Eternal City.
In the same spirit of friendship and love for sport that has
spurred Rome to make a bid for the 2004 Olympics,
I would like to welcome and send my best wishes to both
teams and their home cities.
Francesco Rutelli
Mayor of Rome
