AFC Ajax tegen Juventus FC. Wat een fantastisch duel!
AFC Ajax versus Juventus FC. What a tremendous billing!
Twee van de beste teams van Europa, beide vroegere
winnaars van Europacup voor landskampioenendie al eerder
tegenover elkaar stonden in de finale van deze zelfde
competitie in 1973, maken zich op vooreen nieuwe
confrontatie als het hoogtepunt van het Europese
voetbalseizoen 1995/96. Deze finale volgt een serie
enerverende UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE wedstrijden en
vooral na twee geweldige halve finales die de hoge kwaliteit
van het hedendaagse Europese voetbal nog eens hebben
onderstreept.
Ik ben ervan overtuigd dat zowel het kundige Italiaanse publiek
als ook de supporters uit het buitenland, vooral die uit
Nederland, aangevuld met de miljoenen mensen voor de
televisie in de rest van de wereld zullen genieten van deze finale
van de belangrijkste en meest prestigieuze competitie voor
clubs. Beide teams hebben tijdens dit seizoen hun sporen al
verdiend in de UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE en staan klaar dit
seizoen nog een keer hun beste voetbal ten toon te spreiden.
Namens UEFA, feliciteer ik Ajax en Juventus met het feit dat ze
zich hebben gekwalificeerd voor deze finale, die ze, daar ben ik
van overtuigd, zullen spelen naar de Fair Play principes, die
gedurende het gehele seizoen voorop hebben gestaan.
Ik dank beide teams ook bij voorbaat voor wederom een
wervelende voorstelling van hun kunnen.
Last but not least, wil ik de italiaanse voetbalbond bedanken
voor de organisatie van deze finale in het prachtige Olympische
stadion van Rome; een stadion met een rijke traditie als het
gaat om de organisatie van belangrijke internationale
voetbalevenementen.

Two of the greatest teams in Europe, both former European
Club Champions, who met in the final of this same
competition once before, in 1973, are again preparing to face
each other in the climax of the 1995/96 European club
football season, after an exciting UEFA CHAMPIONS
LEAGUE: stage, and particularly after two excellent semi
finals, which illustrated ted the quality of top-level European
football.
I am certain that the expert Italian public, as well as the
supporters from abroad, especially those from the
Netherlands, and, indeed, all other football lovers, at home in
front of their television sets throughout the whole world, will
enjoy this year's final tie in UEFA's flagship competition for
club teams. Both teams have already made their mark in this
season's competition, and are now waiting to display football
at its best once again.
On behalf of UEFA, I congratulate both Ajax and Juventus on
qualifying for this final, which I am sure they will also play in
the spirit of Fair Play that has generally prevailed throughout
the season, and I thank them in advance for giving us a
top-class performance! Last but not least, I would like to
thank the Italian Football Federation for staging this final in
the beautiful Olympic Stadium in Rome, which, on so many
occasions in the past, has been the scene of major European
and world footballing events.
