Thank you, Rangers
CHAMPIONS
LEAGUE
One of the tasks of UEFA's East European Assistance Bureau (EEAB) is to
encourage Western associations and clubs to donate materials of every kind
to the EEAB associations.
Glasgow Rangers Football Club has decided to set a positive example. Some
months ago, the EEAB was contacted by the Scottish club, who iniformed us
that 8,000 seats would be removed in their stadium, and replaced by new
ones. Mr Ernie Walker, Executive Director of the EEAB Board and Chairman of
the UEFA Stadia Committee, immediately went to the Ibrox Stadium to check
out the situation with Rangers.
Mr. Walker's report was positive, and the EEAB subsequently considered
which association should be offered the seats. As the Lithuanian Football
Federation had just drawn up plans to turn their National "Zhalgiris" Stadium
into an all-seated arena, the decision was made in their favour.
Rangers organized transportation, the cost of which was covered by the
EEAB. The Lithuanian Football Federation took charge of installation.
This is just one example of how the Western football community can help to
integrate the New Eastern associations as quickly as possible into the
European football family. Hopefully, a lot more examples will follow!
The EEAB is happy to offer a big THANK YOU to Glasgow Rangers!
