The pre-season message to
supporters was a plea for patience as
the latest signings and young blood
needed time to blend.
However, as the campaign
progressed, the more the side grew in
experience and confidence, surprising
a few people along the way and,
above all, entertaining all who
watched them.
Attractive football has been the trade
mark ofTottenham Hotspur Football
Club, since it's formation 111 years
ago, and that world- wide reputation
has been reinforced by an impressive
catalogue of honours.
Tottenham's connection with the F.A.
Cup is particularly special, not least
because the club hold the record of
eight victories in that famous
competition.
Spurs became the first and only non-
League side to lift the trophy in 1901
one of many 'firsts' in the club's proud
tradition.
In 1961Spurs became the first club
this century to achieve a unique
League Championship and F.A. Cup
'double', and two years later became
the first British side to win a European
trophy when Bill Nicholson led his
famous team to victory in the
European Cup-Winners' Cup.
The League Cup wins in 1971 and
1973 were another breakthrough and,
after the UEFA Cup triumph of 1972,
Spurs became the first English club to
play in three major European finals
when reaching the final of the same
competition two years later.
