tJom& c/a^^yaames^ in prospect By Alan Sugar, Chairman, Tottenham Hotspur FC f/ecm delighted to welcome you all to White Hart Lane for a prestigious tournament that promises pure entertainment from four great clubs. We have a pedigree here for high-class football and a belief that only the best is good enough for Spurs fans. The Makita International represents that quality and is now rightly established as the best there is in pre-season competition. So a particular welcome to Tottenham to everyone from Makita and to the officials, players and supporters of Ajax, Chelsea and Lazio. We are all looking forward with great anticipation to a very special weekend. With the upheavals of the summer now behind us, the new season promises great things for us all at White Hart Lane. We have a new manager, new ideas but the same ambition - success in every game that we play. Ossie Ardiles will ensure that the promise generated by our talented youngsters last season will be built upon this time around and that these young players fulfil their potential - and do so at White Hart Lane. We will always be in the market for good performers as and when they become available but we have immense embryonic talent here and even more coming through. There is always something special about your own home-grown lads coming to the fore and I was delighted with the way you all got behind them from their debuts onwards last season. With that backbone, plus the skills and experience of our established players, we can be formidable. Ossie has the managerial skills to put it all together and to maintain our reputation for playing attractive, attacking football in the Tottenham way. As a player here, he formed that incredible midfield partnership with Glenn Hoddle that supporters still relish and will always remember. With Glenn now at the reins at Stamford Bridge, it will be interesting to witness how they translate the purity of their own play into management. Both were highly-respected here at White Hart Lane where Paul Gascoigne later took on that 'play-maker' role and inspired a new generation of Spurs fans. Having him back will be another real bonus and illustrates what a smashing curtain-raiser to the new season we have in prospect. As Lazio illustrated when they came here in the Capital Cup last season, they are a world-class team with many fine names while Ajax have enjoyed consistent success throughout Europe. You can always guarantee a good game with Chelsea and with Hoddle the inspiration they too promise much for the new campaign. It's all about quality, performance and style and with four excellent games in prospect, this tournament has it all.
