caps for England. A great favourite at
White Hart Lane, he began with
Newcastle and joined us for £2 million
in July 1988. Was then sold to Lazio in
one of the most publicised transfers in
English soccer history a year ago
12 months later than intended after
Gazza suffered a career-threatening
knee injury in the FA Cup Final victory
over Nottingham Forest. Made his
England debut as a substitute against
Denmark in 1988-89 and his starring
role at the 1990 World Cup Finals
which first earned Italian admiration
included the last-minute free kick
from which David Piatt scored the
second-round winner against
Belgium.
Dario MARCOLIN. (Midfield)
Age 21 (born October 28, 1971).
A fourth member of the Lazio squad
who helped Italy beat Sweden over
two legs to win the 1992 European
Youth Championship. Joined Lazio
last summer from Cremonese.
Giovanni STROPPA (Midfield)
Age 25 (born January 24, 1968).
Joined Lazio two years ago from Milan
where the presence of Rijkaard and Co
clearly restricted his prospects.
Stroppa also spent two years on loan
to Monza.

Aged 32 (born May 30, 1961
Signed this summer from relegated
Brescia, whom he had Joined three
years ago from the Sardinian island
club, Cagliari.

Captain. Played for Torino, Bologna,
Como, Bari and Pisa before joining
Lazio and establishing himself in 1988.

Thomas DOLL. (Forward/Midfield)
Age 27 (born April 9, 1966) with 10
caps for Germany (one goal) 29 caps
for the former East Germany.
Doll is the £2 million man to whom
Lazio turned after Paul Gascoigne's
transfer was delayed. Doll made his
name originally with Hansa Rostock
then starred with the all-conquering
Stasi club, Dynami Berlin, before the
collapse ofThe Berlin Wall. Hamburg
quickly snapped him up in the Spring of
1990 but he had stayed barely 18
months before Lazio moved in. Doll
made his East German international
debut as a substitute in a 2-0 defeat by
Greece in March 1986. He made his
unified German debut five years later
against the Soviet Union.
Giuseppe SIGNORJ. (Attack)
Age 25 (born Lebruary 17,1968) with
six caps. Outstanding marksman in the
Italian League this past season,
collecting his top-scoring 26 goals with
a flair and regularity to earn a regular
place in the Italian national side for the
World Cup qualifiers. Signori is a late
developer who had bounced around

being 'rescued' last summer by Lazio.
He established his original national
team claims during Italy's American

A versatile and experienced player
with spells to his name at Atlanta
(twice), Piacenza and Lazio. He was
loaned out to Monza for the second
half of 1991-92.
Maurizio NERi. (Forward)
(Age 28 (bom March 21,1965).
Another of those players who have
packed a bundle of experience into
their careers without hitting the
international headlines. Neri has
played for Fiorentina, Fano, Reggiana,
Ancona, Napoli and Pisa.

Age 22 (born July 8, 1971).
Back with Lazio after loan spells with
Formia, Barleta and Palermo.
Alen BOKSIC. (Forward)
Aged 23 (born January 21,1970)
Croat with three caps for the former
Yugoslavia. Boksic made his name
with Hajduk Split and joined Marseille
early in the 1991 -92 season. However,
transfer complications meant Boksic
had to be loaned to Cannes, for whom
he was then permitted to play only
one league match, he returned to
Marseille a year ago and proved an
instant hit in the French league as
replacement for Milan-bound Jean-
Pierre Papin. He was the French
league's top scorer last season with 23
goals and collected a Champions' Cup
medal after Marseille's Munich
triumph over Milan.
