Erland JOHNSEN.
THE MANAGER
Glenn HODDLE
Was appointed player-manager at
Stamford Bridge in June after
successfully guiding Swindon Town
to the Premier League, via the play
offs last season, in his first
managerial role.
Born in Hayes, he began a long
association with Spurs as a
schoolboy, signing apprentice forms
in April, 1974, and turning
professional a year later.
His full debut came in February,
1976, and during 12 seasons in the
Spurs first team he scored 1 10 goals
in 494 competitive matches,
winning F.A. Cup winners' medals
in 1981 and 1982.
His ambition of playing on the
Continent was achieved when he
signed for A.S. Monaco in June,
1987, and three years with the
French club saw him win a League
Championship medal in his first
season and reach the French Cup
Final. He was also voted best foreign
player in the French League.
A knee injury prompted his early
return to England, when he had a
brief spell training with Chelsea and
played for the Blues' Football
Combination side, on a non-contract
basis, before joining Swindon in
March, 1991
Has been capped for England on 1 2
occasions at Under-21 level, has two
'B' caps and 53 full caps to his credit.

Dave BEASANT. (Goalkeeper)
Age 34 (born Wiilesden,
March 20, 1959).
England international who fought his
way back into the team towards the
end of last season after being told he
would not play for Chelsea again by
then-manager Ian Porterfield. Cost
£725,000 from Newcastle United in
January 1989. Started at
Wimbledon, whom he captained to
victory in the 1988 FA Cup final.
Dmitri KHAR1NE. (Goalkeeper)
Age 24. (born Moscow,
August 16, 1968).
Russian international who cost
£400,000 last November from CSKA
Moscow, with whom he won the
Russian League in 1992. Made
Chelsea debut in 1-1 League draw at
Queens Park Rangers in January, one
of five games for the club last
season.

Welsh international. Longest serving
player currently at Stamford Bridge,
he made his debut in May, 1987.
Chelsea Youth product and former
England Schoolboy international.
Scored two goals in 1991 -92 season
in 41 appearances.
David LEE. (Central Defender)
Age 23 (born Bristol,
November 26, 1969).
Won six England Under-21 caps after
arriving at Stamford Bridge as a 17-
year-old. Scored on his first team
debut in October 1988 against
Leicester and by the end of his first
season Had appeared in defence,
midfield and attack.
Mal DONAGHY. (Defender)
Age 35 (born Belfast,
September 13, 1957).
Northern Ireland international with 84
caps. Signed from Manchester United
for 150,000 in August, 1992, after
nearly four years at Old Trafford. Had
10 seasons with first club Luton Town
before joining Manchester United in
October, 1988. Last season he scored
in successive games v Leeds United
and Middlesbrough after five years
without a goal.
Steve CLARKE. (Defender)
Age 29 (born Saltcoats,
August 29, 1963).
Scottish international joined from St
Mirren for £422,000 in January, 1987.
Missed six weeks of last season
following a hernia operation in
September, 1992. Has scored nine
times in 219 appearances for Chelsea.
Frank SINCLAIR. (Defender)
Age 21 (born Lambeth,
December 3, 1971).
Chelsea's 'Player of the Year' last
season. Youth product, who
established himself as a central
defender last term, making 32 League
appearances. Made his club debut
against Luton in April, 1991Had a
spell on loan with West Bromwich
Albion in 1991-92.
Gavin PEACOCK. (Midfield)
Age 25 (born Welling, November 18,
1967) Can also play in attack and was
Glenn Hoddle's first major signing of
the summer when he joined Chelsea
for 1,25m in late July. Peacock
scored 18 goals for Newcastle United
last season. The son of the former
Charlton Athletic stalwart Keith, he
started his career at Queens Park
Rangers then moved to Gillingham,
Bournemouth and Newcastle. He is a
former England Schools and Youth
international.
