MANAGER'S OPINION SKIPPER OF BURNLEY IT has been a tremendous season here at Burnley Football Club, and there can be no finer way of rounding it off than by playing a match against tonight's visitors Ajax of Amsterdam, a team who last week won the UEFA Cup. They are one of the most famous clubs in the game, and the entertainment they have given people all over the world has been among the most exciting the game of football has ever seen. For us to be able to stage a match against one of Europe's finest sides is a sure sign of the ways things are going here at Burnley Football Club. It would be true to say that just a few short years ago we would never have been able to dream about a game like tonight's, never mind stage it. But now we have started to take the first steps along the road to putting Burnley right back on the footballing map. We hope that the Fourth Division Championship was just a start, and that it was success we can build on. But we are not taking anything for granted and will learn with every game we play. I cannot say how big a thrill it is for us to have Ajax here at Turf Moor tonight. When I heard that there was a chance of the game being played I was delighted you have to be a good side to reach the final of the UEFA Cup, and that's just what Ajax have done this season. Since I have been at Burnley Football Club we have had friendlies against good Russian teams in the shape of Dynamo Brest and Dynamo Stavropol but tonight's opponents are in a different league, and I am sure that there is a lot we can learn from them. It's another fixture we should attract a bumper crowd and I know you will all enjoy the game have a great night.
