For the second successive season he has finished the Dutch League's top goalscorer with 24 goals, and has been voted the Dutch Players' Player of the Year. s av\ The remarkable 23-year-old also holds the Dutch League record of scoring in ten successive matches. fi Unlike Marco Van Basten who moved to Italy at the same age, Bergkamp will stay in Holland, despite the lucrative attetions of Real Madrid, Bergkamp will stay at Ajax for another year. At 18 he played in Ajax's victorious European Cup Winners' Cup side in 1987 when they beat Lokomotiv Leipzig 2-0 in Athens. Three years later, he made his international debut for Holland against Italy in Palermo in September 1990. Since then he has scored five goals in ten appearances. Bergkamp is likely to come a more prominent member of the national squad by the 1994 World Cup. Although he will feautre in this summer's European Champion Finals it will largely be in the shadow of Marco Van Basten.
