If you can imagine it
You can achieve it.
If you can dream it
You can become it.

The U.S. Soccer Federation, a
member of FIFA since 1913,
celebrated its 75th anniversaiy in 1988,
a year in which the United States was
named host nation for the 1994 FIFA
World Cup. Landing the World Cup is
something of which Americans are ex
tremely proud, and it is the aim of the
U.S. Soccer Federation to ensure that
this great event will be an outstanding
success.
The U.S. Soccer Federation was one
of the world's first soccer organiza
tions to be affiliated with the Federa
tion Internationale de Football Asso
ciation.
The federation has continued to grow
through the years and now has the
second largest membership of the 38
Class A members of the U.S. Olympic
Committee.
One of the 17 national governing
bodies of sport currently headquar
tered at the U.S. Olympic Complex in
Colorado Springs, the federation is a
non-profit, volunteer organization
administered by a national council of
elected representatives.
Much of the federation's business is
conducted by a 24-member board of
directors representing three vast ad
ministrative arms - approximately 1.5
million youth players 19 years of age
and under; 115,000 senior players over
the age of 19, and its professional
division, which oversees the sport at
the professional level. The senior and
youth divisions are divided into 51 and
55 state associations respectively, with
some states divided into two associa
tions.
The popularity of soccer has grown
tremendously in the United States in
the past 15 years. The quality of play
has continued to improve to the point
that United States teams are making
their mark in the world arena.
In early 1989. the U.S. Five-a-Side
team took the bronze medal by finish
ing third at the first FIFA World Cham
pionship for Five-a-Side Football,
played in the Netherlands. The U.S. U-
16 team qualified for the world tourna
ment for their age division. Then in
March, the intrepid U.S. Under-20 team
surprised the experts by placing fourth
in the 5th World Youth Championship
for the FIFA/Coca-Cola Cup. played in
Saudi Arabia. Now the U.S. National
Team has qualified for the FIFA World
Cup to be in Italy from June 8 to July
8. 1990.
The U.S. Soccer Federation congratu
lates the fine young American men and
women who are striving for excellence
in the great sport of soccer.
