It is my pleasure to welcome you all
tonight to the second leg of our European
Cup Winners game against Ajax of
Amsterdam.
On behalf of Dundalk F.C. I extend a
"Cead Mile Failte" to the Ajax team, the
President Mr. Harmsen, his fellow direc
tors and team managers.
My congratulations to Turlough O'Connor, team captain, Joey Malone
and his team mates on their achievement in qualifying for Europe after an
absence of five years and wish them well in the game tonight. Having attended
the first leg in Amsterdam, I felt proud of Dundalk F.C. with their magnifi
cent display of football, of which the final result did not give a true reflection
of their efforts.
As usual "Oriel Park" is looking its best and this is solely due to Mickey
Fox, Seamus Tuite, Joe Larkin and his committee. The playing surface and
stadium is a credit to them.
Our match sponsors tonight are "KERSTEN HUNIK" a local firm who
are now associated with Oriel Park for many seasons.
1 look forward to a sporting game tonight with lots of skill and hope that
the fans enjoy the continental flair of "Ajax" on their first ever visit to Ireland.
My thanks to Gerry McNamee on the production of this special programme
and look forward to his league programmes during the season.
May this be a memorable night for football in Dundalk.
Yours in sport, EAMONN HINEY
