WELCOME TO AJAX AMSTERDAM
It is with the greatest pleasure that we extend a hearty Irish welcome to the
players, officials and supporters of Ajax Amsterdam to Oriel Park for tonight's
1 Round 2nd Leag European Cup Winners' Cup Tie. We are very proud to play
hosts tonight to a club who dominated Europe in the seventies by winning the Euro
pean Cup 3 times in a row and of course are current holders of the Cup Winners'
Cup.
We are particularly happy to have one of the greatest footballers of all time
in Oriel Park (the Ajax Manager, Johan Cruyff) who was at this peak during
those European triumphs and in Holland's great moments in the World Cup.
This is Ajax's first visit to the Republic of Ireland and we hope they can pro
vide the same excitement which has been served up by teams like Spurs, Glasgow
Celtic, Hadjuk Split and PSV Einhoven, all of whom failed to win here at Oriel Park.
It is our wish that regardless of the result, the game will be played in a spor
ting manner and that our visitors will enjoy the game and their stay in Ireland.

Het is met het grootste genegen, dat wij een hartelijk Iers welkom heten aan
de spelens, officials en supporters van Ajax Amsterdam voor de vanavond in het
Oriel Park te spelen wedstrijd.
Wij zijn en trots op gastheren te mogen zijn voor een club, die Europa
domineerde in de jaren '70 door 3 maal achtereen de Europa Cup te winnen en
nu de tegenwoordige houders van de Cup Winners Cup zijn.
In het bijzonder zijn wij erg verheugd om één van de grootste voetballers aller
tijden in Oriel Park te hebben (de Ajax manager Johan Cruyff), die op zijn best
was tijdens deze Europa Cup triomfen en in Holland's grootste momemten in de
World Cup.
Dit is Ajax' eerste bezoek aan de Ierse Republiek en wij hopen, dat zij hetzelfde
enthousiasme kunnen opbrengen waarmee de clubs Spurs, Glasgow Celtic, Hajuk
Split en P.S.V. Einhoven hier in het Oriel Park hebben gespeeld. Allen faalden
weliswaar te winnen.
Het is onze dat, ongeacht de witslag, de wedstrijd op een sportieve manier
wondt gesppeld en dat onze bezoehers van de wedstrijd en hun verblijf in Ierland
zullen genieten.
