TOUR REPORT ié-Ü* Rüttenen^ - - -UPr A REVIEW OF RANGERS' PRE SEASON GAMES IN SWITZERLAND AND WEST GERMANY Rangers left for the pre-season tour of Switzerland and Germany on Tuesday 14 July. And even as the squad was jetting out of Glasgow Airport, Manager Graeme Souness was involved in more transfer business. We signed Mark Falco from Wat ford and after his wedding to Barbara the following Saturday, he went out to the team's headquarters in Solothurn to join the lads. Mark is a welcome addition to the pool and we would like to take this opportunity to wish him well at Ibrox. His arrival in Switzerland took the party up to 23 in number. Graeme Souness led the way with assistant Walter Smith, trainer Phil Boersma, doctor Donald Cruick- shank and kit man George Soutar alongside him. The playing staff was: Chris Woods, Nicky Walker, Jimmy Nicholl, Stuart Munro, Jimmy Phillips, Graham Roberts, Terry But cher, Graeme Souness, John McGregor, Avi Cohen, Davie Kirkwood, Derek Ferguson, Ian Dur- rant, Robert Fleck, Davie Cooper, Al ly McCoist, Scott Nisbet, Neil Woods and latterly, Falco. The action began against the local Solothurn team the day after the squad checked in. We had a comfortable 4-1 win and were never seriously in trouble against the Swiss Second Division Team. Ally McCoist opened the scoring after 20 minutes, but Solothurn equalised through Rolf Zahnd six minutes later. Graham Roberts then powered home a header with Neil Woods ad ding the third and Ian Durrant finishing it off. The Manager kept the same side throughout and this was the line-up: C. Woods, Nicholl, Phillips, Roberts, McGregor, Souness, Ferguson, N. Woods, McCoist, Durrant, Cooper. Solothurn: Siegenthaler, M. Schmied, Blasi, Moranduzzo, B. Schmied, Bing- geli, Sterki, Larghader, Zahnd, Vet ter, Grossen. Referee was Mr Serge Muhmenthaler from Grenchen and the attendance was 800. But after that opening match there was not time to relax and it was straight into the second. That was against a Delemont Select which included players from other time with the last of his three coming from the penalty spot. For the second half, substitute Ally McCoist scored twice to complete the convincing win. These were the teams: Delemont Select: Schmidlin (Dele mont), Jubin (Delemont), Lovis (Moutier), Leuthard (Laufon), Chavaillaz (Delemont), Froidevaux (Delemont), Chapuis (Delemont), Blanchard (Grandfontaine), Cueni (Laufon), Lang (Moutier), Tauriello (Bassecourt). Substitutes: Rumann for Blanchard, Tieche for Schmidlin, Dubois for Jubin and Bron for Froidevaux. Rangers: Walker, McGregor, Munro, Roberts, Phillips, Butcher, Ferguson, Fleck, Durrant, Nisbet. There was one novel touch before the match when parachutists ap peared from above with the match ball. But then it was down to business and we won easily, 6-0. Robert Fleck started the spree, John McGregor added a second from a free kick then the wee striker completed his hat-trick before half- Ferquson, Souness for Phillips and Phillips for McGregor. The referee was Mr Bruno Kloetzli from Malleray and the crowd was 2,000. There was a bit of respite after that, although the Manager kept the lads busy training. The teams were: Zurich: 1-Tomare, 5-Landolet, 6-Berger, 8-Andracchio, 9-Romano, 10-Voege, 11-Kundert, 12-Bickel, 15-Rufer, 18-Studer, 19-Haechler. +L.
