Can be characterized as a promising prospect.
The first disappointment this season was the elimination in the struggle for European
Cup I by CSKA (Sophia), after winning this trophy for the past three years. At home
we won too small a victory 10) and in the return a defeat of 20 (after
extra time) was fatal.
Uptil then Ajax was still the leading club in the League after 22 out of the 34 games
and the Semi Final was reached for the Dutch Cup. But at the end of March they met
a stroke of bad luck: at first, middle-back Barry Hulshoff, and one of the stars,
got seriously injured and would be out of action for several month. Then, the
elimination for the National Cup by PSV.
There were bad moments toe in the remaining league-games caused our finishing
third, after Feyenoord (1) and FC Twente (2).
The only success was winning the so-called SUPER CUP against AC Milan. In Italy.
Ajax lost by 10, but in the Olympic Stadium at Amsterdam our opponents were
beaten by 60!
In the League 1974-1975 it looked as if Ajax would play an important part again this
year, but unfortunately the initially expected success failed to materialize owing
to several circumstances bringing negative results in the last and critical matches so
we had to accept the third place again, after PSV and Feyenoord.
The less condition of our team was demonstrated too in the Competition for the
Dutch Cup, in which we were ruled out after only a few matches. And we were even
worse in the UEFA-Competition. In-the first two rounds we eliminated Stoke City
and FC Antwerp, although not very convincingly, but against Juventus (Turin) we
failed.
