Martin Buchan (Defender). Born in
Aberdeen, joined Manchester United in
February 1972. Member of Scottish Cup
Squad in Munich June/July 1974. Adjudged
as one of the best central defenders in
Europe he captained the Cup Winning Team
against Liverpool in 1976/77. Captain of the
Scottish team on the South American tour
in 1976/77.
Alex Stepney (Goalkeeper). He joined in
1966 from Chelsea. Won a European
Champion Clubs' Cup Winners' Medal in
1968. Member of the England World Cup
Squad in Mexico 1970. Regular first team
choice and completed 450 first team games
in Season 1975/76. Won a Cup Final Medal
against Liverpool in 1976/77 Season.
Paddy Roche (Goalkeeper). Born Dublin.
Signed October 1973 from Shelbourne F.C.
Regular choice for Eire International team.
Made his 1st Division debut v. Norwich City
November 1975. His first team appearances
have been limited due to the excellent form
of Alex Stepney.
Alex Forsyth (Defender). Hails from
Swinton in Scotland. Signed from Partick
Thistle in December 1972. A full Scottish
International capable of playing both full
back positions and also mid field. A valuable
member of the first team squad whose
appearances were limited in 1976/77. But
whose great experience was invaluable to a
successful reserve season.
Stewart Houston (Defender). Formerly with
Chelsea. Won two Scottish Under 23 Caps
and awarded 1st full cap for Scotland in
season 1975/76. Was a member of
unsuccessful Cup Final in 1975/76 and was
robbed of a Winners' Medal in 1976/77 due
to breaking a leg 2 weeks before the Cup
Final of 1976/77.
Sammy Mcllroy (Midfield). Born Belfast.
First team debut 6th November 1971Won
full cap for Northern Ireland in 1971A
road accident in early 1973 held up his
progress but he is now fully recovered.
Regular choice for Northern Ireland. Gained
F.A. Cup Winners' Medal in Season 1976/77.
Lou Macari (Midfield). Born Edinburgh,
Scotland. Signed from Glasgow Celtic in
1973 making his debut for United in
January 1973 and scored. Full Scottish
International. Now a mid field player with a
high calibre. Gained an F.A. Cup Winners'
Medal v. Liverpool in the 1976/77 Final.
Recalled to the Scottish Team v. England at
Wembley and toured South America.
Stuart Pearson (Forward). Bom Hull. A big
strong forward, signed at the end of Season
1973/74. A current England International
following his first U. 23 Cap v. Hungary at
Old Trafford in 1975. Scored first goal v.
Liverpool in the 1976/77 Cup Final. Toured
South America with the England party and
scored against Argentina.
Steve Coppell (Forward). Signed from
Tranmere Rovers in 1975 and was an instant
success. Received his degree at Liverpool
University and has now become a full time
professional. A member of the successful
Cup Winning Team of 1976/77 and the
International Squad to tour South America.
Gordon McQueen (Central Defender). Born
in Kilbirnie, Scotland. An orthodox centre-
half, who commands a great deal of respect
from opponents. Excellent in the air both
in defence and attach. Transferred to
Manchester United in February 1978 for a
record fee. Scottish International and
another member of Scotland's World Cup
Squad 1978.
Andrew Ritchie (Forward). Born Stockport,
Cheshire. Schoolboy International. Played
for England Youth. A regular member of
the second team and made his first team
debut against Everton this season.
Brian Greenhoff (Defender). Born Barnsley.
Joined the club on leaving school. Made his
first team debut in 1973. Gained his first
full cap in 1975/76 and played for England
in America during the 1976 close season.
Now a regular member of the England team.
Gained an F.A. Cup Winners' Medal in
1976/77.
Jimmy Nicholl (Defender). Born Belfast,
represented his country at Schoolboy and
Youth International level. Made his debut in
the first Division in 1975. Now a regular
member of the Northern Ireland Inter
national squad, and established as first
choice right black. Won a Cup Winners'
Medal in 1976/77.
Jimmy Greenhoff (Striker). Arrived at Old
Trafford in November 1976/77. A player of
great ability and vision. He has made a
difference to the maturity and stability of
the current side. Scored the winning goal in
the F.A. Cup Final von Liverpool in Mars
1977.
David McCreery (Forward). Born Belfast.
Represented Northern Ireland at Schoolboy
and Youth International level. Made his first
division debut on August 19th 1975. Now a
regular member of the Northern Ireland
International squad. Gained a Cup Winners'
Medal in 1976/77.
Arthur Albiston (Defender). Born
Edinburgh. Made his first team debut in the
Football League Cup and was a member of
the first team party for the close season
tour, 1975. A current member of the
Scottish Under 21 Squad.
Tommy Jackson (Midfield). A tenacious
performer and an Irish International on
many occasions. Signed by Manchester
United in Season 1975/76. His first team
appearances have been limited but an
invaluable member of the reserve team.
Joe Jordan (Forward). Born in Carluke,
Scotland. One of Europe's most-feared
strikers and Scotland's first choice centre-
forward. A member of Scottish World Cup
Squad in Munich 1974. Joined Manchester
United in January 1978 and made his debut
against West Bromwich Albion in the F.A.
Cup. One of four United players picked for
Scotland's World Cup Squad 1978.
