TO PLAY in European foot ball circuit on a competitive basis is still a priority in the club's future planning, and this match against Ajax of Amsterdam could, if the response is right, enable us to take one huge stride forward There is an entirely different approach to the European scene than there is to the domestic scene, and our supporters must learn to exercise greater patience because all top European sides employ a more patient build-up home and away than we are used to in bread and butter Scottish League matches. This is a vitally important match for the club in so many respects, not the least of which is the opportunity it affords our players to obtain a much-desired experience of competing against some of the world's top footballers. I am looking forward to this confrontation immensely. This is my first venture at steering a side into a match against European opposition and, like the players, I hope to pick up a few pointers from first hand knowledge that I hope will stand me and the club in good stead when we realise our ambition to gain a place in Europe
