HORST BLANKENBURG (defender): Aged 27.
Joined Ajax from Munich 1860 in December,
1970. Born in West Germany. Can operate
equally as successfully in back four or in midfield.
RUUD KROL (defender): One of the best-known
players on the Ajax books. He stepped into their
senior side in 1969 and has since developed into
one of the most respected full-backs in Europe.
Holds several Holland international caps.
WIM SUURBIER (defender): Aged 29. Joined
Ajax as a junior in 1963 and signed as a
professional the following year. Fast and reliable,
he likes to overlap. Another Holland full-cap
international.
BARRY HULSHOFF (defender): Aged 28. Joined
Ajax as a youth as is now regarded as one of
Holland's top centre-back players. Very good in
the air, Barry is another international.
PIM VAN DOORD (defender): Aged 21Grew up
with Ajax joining them as an 11 -year-old.
Graduated through the Ajax youth teams and
won a regular place in the first team last season.
A student.
ARIE HAAN (midfield): Aged 26. A former
teacher, Ajax signed him from WW at
Winschoten, a small city in the north of the
Netherlands. A full international, he won a
regular first team place three seasons ago.
GER MUHREN (midfield): Aged 28. Signed
professional forms for Ajax in 1968. Started his
career in Volendam, a small fishing village in the
suburbs of Amsterdam. A full cap, Ger is the
penalty expert.
ARNOLD MUHREN (midfield): Aged 23. One of
the finest Ajax discoveries in recent seasons and,
like his brother Ger, started his career with
Volendam. Arnold has won Holland Youth caps.
JOHNNY REP (forward): Aged 23. One of the
stars of the Holland team in last summer's World
Cup. Joined Ajax from amateur club ZTF
(Zaandam). A fast winger with a tremendous
shot.
JAN MULDER (forward): Aged 29. Started with
amateur club WW at Winschoten (the same club
where Arie Haan started) and later joined
Anderlecht, of Belgium. Joined Ajax in 1972, but
has been dogged with injuries.
PIET KEIZER (forward): Aged 31His career was
seriously threatened with a premature ending
after a bad injury nine years ago. For a time it was
feared he would never play again, but back he
came after a year's absence and is now rated as
playing better than ever. A full international, Piet
is a dangerous winger.
RUUD GEELS (forward): Aged 25. A £130,000
buy from Belgian club F.C. Brugges. Holds two
international caps, but was on the subs bench in
the Munich World Cup. Netted 20 goals in Ajax's
pre-season games this summer. He previously
played for Feyenoord and Go-Ahead Eagles
before joining Brugges. Played for Feyenoord in
the European Cup in 1969-70, scoring 12 goals in
the competition but lost his place in the Final
against Celtic to Ove Kindvall, who was signed
from Sweden. Soon after Ruud left for Brugges.
Obviously the No. 1 danger man tonight.
