by Jim Rodger, Scottish Daily Express Denis Law will go down in the history books as one of Scotland's all time greats as a result of his international feats for his country. Although his senior football has all been in England and Italy, his name is a household one in Scotland. His brilliant performances in the Dark Blue jersey have thrilled everyone in Scotlandwho are proud of the Aberdeen boy, who gained world fame. Denis has also been a great friend of mine during his long and distinguished career. I well remember the night the youngster came to Glasgow to join the Scottish squad. Bringing him North was another Scottish internationalist, Tommy Docherty, now the present Manchester United manager. And right away it was evident to everyone that Scotland had another Great Scot. He played in a team that included United's assistant manager Pat Crerand, Jim Baxter (Rangers) and Dave Mackay and John White (Spurs). Capped 49 times for Scotland. Denis would have played for nothing, since he considered it his greatest honour. He had that will to win, possessed the pride that Scotland was a great football nation. Two people had a great influence on DenisBill Shankly, when he was at Huddersfield Town and Sir Matt Busby. The two Scots, who made their names famous in the managerial world, helped Denis in his career. 1 was with Sir Matt when he completed the Law deal to bring him back from Italy. And we had to take the Italians on their own ground. For they had plotted to sell Denis from Torino to Juventus. It was a business deal between the two chairmen, and Law was to collect £1 0,000 But Denis just caught the first plane home, and I quickly sent a message to the Italian papers that Law had gone home to look after his "sick" mother. They fell for itand arranged to sell him to United. Scotland had no more worries about getting the release of their golden boy. Denis Law has proved himself to be A Great Scot. Great Scot!
