Heinz Stuy. 28. Only Ajax player to appear in
all 34 League matches last season. Joined club
from Telstar Ijmuiden in 1967, and won regular
place when Ger Bals retired in 1 970.
Sies Wever. 26. Stuy's deputy is a Dutch
•amateur international. Signed from Sportclub
Assen.
Wim Suurbier. 28. A Dutch international,
Wim won his first cap against Czechoslovakia in
1966. Previous clubs: Amstel and D.W.S.
Amsterdam. Plays on right side.
Barr Hulshoff. 26. Played for Dutch Army and
also won Under-23 and 'B' caps before making
full international debut against East Germany in
1971Stopper or centre-back.
Horst Blankenburg. 26. A West German
Under-23 international, Horst was the only
player in the Six v Three (Common Market)
match at Wembley last January who was not a
full cap. Joined Ajax in 1970, and played
previously in Germany and Austria with FC
Nurnburg, Wiener SC and Munich 1860. Often
used as sweeper, but can also play in midfield.
Ruud Krol. 24. Made excellent recovery from
broken leg in 1 971Normally used in left-back
role. A Dutch international, Ruud was signed
from Rood Wit in 1 968.
Jaak Swart. 35. The veteran of the Ajax
team, he has been with the club since 1 959 and
has made more than 750 senior appearances.
Had his benefit match in August when Tottenham
visited Amsterdam. A Dutch international. \Jaakie'
was formerly a right-winger, but has recently
operated at right-back in the reserves.
Heinz Schilcher. 26. Austrian international
who was formerly with the Sturm Graz club.
Came to Ajax in 1971 to replace the Yugoslav,
Vasovic. Did not hold a regular place last
season, and was out on offer.
Arie Haan. 24. A qualified teacher who is
known as "The Intellectual", Arie has also been
capped by Holland. Began his career with V.V.
Winschoten. A right-sided player, he has also
attracted the interest of several Spanish clubs
this year.
Johan Neeskens. 21One of the most popular
and glamourous players in the club, Johan was
signed from Haarlem and made his first
appearance for Ajax at the age of 1 9. A Dutch
international, he owns a discotheque at Zaandam.
Has played in goal in emergency.
Ger Muhren. 27. The eldest of the Muhren
brothers, another Dutch cap, is regarded as the
fastest player on the books. Started with Volendam
and moved to Ajax in 1968.
Arnold Muhren. 22. A junior international,
Arnold also first played for Volendam. Joined the
champions in 1971
Ger Kleton. 1 9. A promising young player who
spent last season in reserve side.
Johnny Rep. 21This Dutch international
forward enjoyed a tremendous season in 1 972-73.
He scored twice against Independiente in the
Inter-Continential Cup after coming on as
substitute, and got the winning goal in the
European Cup Final against Juventus last May.
Played with Zaandam for three years before joining
Ajax. Another target for Spanish clubs. Rep was
wanted by Barcelona before they signed Johan
Cruyff.
Piet Keizer. 30. Former club captain, and the
team's senior player now that Swart is no longer,
a regular. Automatic choice for Holland over the
years, he made a splendid recovery after a serious
injury had threatened to end his career.
Jan Mulder. 28. A Dutch international who
started with V.V. Winschoten and joined
Anderlecht in 1965, and spent seven years in
Belgian football. Joined Ajax this year for
£160,000.
