THE greatest parade of trophies everthat's
what the spectators will see at half-time in
tonight's Centenary celebration match.
For on display will be FOUR Cups,
including the three major club trophies in
the World.
CUP No. 1 is the World Club championship
trophy won by Ajax when they defeated
Independiente of Argentine a few months
ago.
CUP No. 2 is the European Cup, won by
Ajax for the second time last season.
CUP No. 3 is the European Cup-Winners'
trophy, which Rangers took with their great
win over Moscow Dynamo in Barcelona in
May.
CUP No. 4 is the 'Super Cup of Europe'
the trophy put up by a Dutch newspaper
for the winner over the two meetings be
tween Ajax and Rangers.
What a dazzling display of silverware.
Before the game, the Pipes and Drums of
the City of Glasgow Police Band will set
the right atmosphere. This will be followed
by a parade symbolising the clubs from 37
countries who have met Rangers in Euro
pean competition over the years.
There will be placards with the name of
each club, carried by youngsters wearing the
appropriate jerseys and also a parade of
national flags.
At the end of the match, there will be a
display of fireworks.
A night to remember, indeed.
REFEREEING tonight's
Centenary match is
Alistair MacKenzie of
Larbert, who was in
charge of this season's
League Cup Final as
well as last season's
Scottish Cup Final.
Mr MacKenzie should
have handled the Old
Firm match at Ibrox 10
days ago when Rangers
beat Celtic 2-1but had
to call off at the last
minute because of
family illness.
He has been a Grade
One official for 15 years
and is on the U.E.F.A.
and F.I.F.A. list, which
means refereeing visits
all over Europe.
Plays a bit of golf
when he finds time.
Recently became a
father for the third time
and now has a
daughter as well as two
sons.
