TOPICS OF THE WEEK
ARSENAL
FOOTBALL CLUB
LIMITED
THIS, we hope will be one of Highbury's Great
Nights. Certainly we know that there will be at least
3,000 Dutchmen here, and to them and to the players
and officials of this famous Ajax club we offer a very
sincere welcome. There is no doubt that the visiting
supporters will make themselves heard so it is up to
us to respond with cries of 'Arsenal'. The North
Bank supporters will no doubt be in their usual
strong voice, but we hope that tonight their efforts
will be matched in every part of the ground.
Enthusiasm by the home crowd does make an
enormous difference as we ourselves found at Ipswich
last week. When Ipswich, facing relagation, were a
goal down they were driven on by one continuous
roar from their supportersand it workedSo let us
see what we can do tonight. With a vis to Amsterdam
a week tonight in mind we have got to go for goals,
and against this very fine Dutch side, it will be no
easy task.
May tonight be as successful for us as last Saturday,
when the League team came back from a goal down
to beat West Ham, the Reserves won 4-1 at Crystal
Palace, and the Juniors 3-0 at Luton.
THE FAIRS CUP FINAL
Without counting our chickens, but with hope
springing eternal, we feel we ought to say something
about the arrangements, as far as we know them,
for the Final Ties for as you know the Final, like all
other Rounds in this competition, is played on a home
and away basis.
Normally there is a reasonable time between the
Semi-Finals and the Finals but because there were
two English Clubs who could have been there the
Committee of the Competition decided to concertina
the last stages so that, at worst, the second leg would
be completed before Sir Alf Ramsey takes his squad
to Mexico.
The last date for the Semi-Finals is the 15th April.
The first leg of the Finals must be played on either
the 21st or 22nd April and the second leg must be
played on the 28th or 30th April. For those of an
enquiring mind the 29th April is reserved for the
Final of the Cup Winners Cup in Vienna!
At the time of going to press all we can do is to
tell you what the prices will be for the home leg
and to say that season ticket holders tickets will be
sent to them as usual without pre-payment. We can
also say that it will not be an all ticket match so people
who wish to stand will pay on the night. For the rest,
we are afraid that because of the shortness of time
we must ask you to watch the National newspapers
for information.
The following admission prices have been consider
ably increased because of the nature of the game and,
because we consider that it is of similar importance
to the F.A. Cup Final, our fans will realise why the
increases have been made. As you know, we try to
be very reasonable before the Final stage and we do
not think that any of our supporters will object to
these prices, on this very special occasion IF WE GET
THERE.
