Introducing RINUS MICHELS A.F.C. AJAX Coach and Trainer Over the past three and a half years, Ajax have had a trainer-coach who has grown up with the team. He is Rinus Michels, born in Amsterdam on 9th February 1928, a teacher of physical education, who from 1945 1956 played centre-forward for Ajax and appeared for the Dutch National Team on five occasions, When he stopped as an active player, he studied for the trainer's licence. starting with clubs in a lower division, and then got a contract with Ajax when Vic Buckingham left. Michels is a man well versed in the modern system of football. He frequently visits the most important Continental matches, studying how other out standing teams play, how they look after their players, and generally picking up all the information and knowledge he can which is likely to be helpful to his own club.
