Lancashire Senior Cup
LEAGUE TABLES
Second Round
v Morecambe, 22nd Oct.
City's young reserve side bolstered
by the experience of Bobby Kennedy
and Ken Mulhearn put up another
encouraging performance when they
beat the holders of the Lancashire
Senior Cup at Maine Road. More
cambe, in the top half of the New
Northern Premier League, were
experienced and strong. After
taking a two goal lead City allowed
the visitors to get back into the game
when they scored a goal which was
more credit to them than to the City
defence. This produced a nail-
biting finish which should never have
been before City came out as de
served winners. The first half
brought City's best spell. And they
went ahead after a through ball from
Tony Towers was flicked in by Chris
Glennon. The second goal came after
half-timeIan Bowyer hit one in
from the edge of the penalty area
The game appeared to be cut and
dried thenuntil Morecambe scored.
In the City team the full backs were
steady; in the middle Tony Towers
continued to show improvement
and Jimmy Mundy who came in
at the last minute when George
Heslop was forced to withdraw
from the side with an ankle
injury played well at centre-half. Up
front, although everyone worked
hard, Chris Glennon and Bobby
Owen were the pick of the forwards.
