MANCHESTER CITY FOOTBALL CLUB LIMITED TALKING POINT Tonight: HARRY DOWD when a City player puts his point of view MAINE ROAD, MOSS SIDE, MANCHESTER 14 Tel.: MOS 1191 Grams.: 'Football', Manchester !4 Chairman: A. V. Alexander Vice-Chairman: F. R. Johnson Directors: A. E. Alexander, M.S.I.A. J. J. H. Humphreys C. B. Muir S. S. Rose, M.B., F.R.C.S. Secretary: W. Griffiths, Team Manager: J. Mercer Vol. 10 No. 12 (New Series) WEDNESDAY, 30th OCT. 1968 "It's not so much moving up from tha Central League to the First Division when I feel the differenceit's moving the other way. Perhaps that has a touch of the Irish about it. But it's in first team football that you are tested in the way you expect to be tested the standard is obviously higher but the demands on you are more constant. "It's a mental more than physical difference. In my position it is not a ques tion of shots coming any harder or any more accurately at me in the First Division. It's that I have less time to make decisions. You've got to be sharper. "The different atmosphere of the two levels has never bothered me. But it is very noticeable how the make-up of the Central League has changed. Some times you'll find first team tactics reproduced in reserve gameslike Leeds putting a man on the goal-line at corners. But there's much more emphasis these days on young players and spirit, than seasoned professionals and experience. "From my point of view I find it a bit frustrating. I often feel I want to get out there and have a go myself.which I have done. Training between games is no different. I can't say I worry too much about things. I like to train hard, whether it's goalkeeping skills or head-tennis, and then I know I'm ready to do my best on Saturdays." WINNERS F. A. CHALLENGE CUP 1904, 1934, 1956 FINALISTS F. A.
